Step 1: Crop to the Correct Aspect Ratio
Before adjusting pixel dimensions, crop the image to matching proportions. Trying to force a wide landscape image into a square box without cropping first will warp and stretch your face.
Step 2: Maintain Aspect Ratio Lock
When inputting custom width and height parameters, keep the aspect ratio locked. This ensures that when you adjust width, the height calculates automatically, preventing image distortions.
Step 3: Pixels vs KB: Dimension and Weight Limits
It is important to understand the difference between dimension pixels and weight bytes (KB). Pixels represent the grid resolution (width and height), whereas KB represents the actual disk weight of the file. If an online form requires a signature image under 140x60 pixels and under 50KB, resizing the pixels first will naturally reduce the file size. If it still exceeds the size threshold, apply compression. Common upload portals reject files if either the pixels or the KB limit is exceeded.
